It came up when readers asked:
- “What are the best historical fiction novels ever written? I've read a few but want a proper list of the really great ones.”
- “I've got a long flight to Australia coming up, what's a really gripping historical novel that will keep me hooked for hours?”
- “Can anyone recommend good historical fiction set in medieval England with a bit of a murder mystery element?”
- “I absolutely loved Wolf Hall, what other historical novels are similar to it?”
- “What are the best historical novels by British authors? Ideally ones set in Britain too.”
- “Can you suggest a historical fiction series worth starting? I like getting stuck into a long series with lots of books.”
