How this list is made
Every week we ask the same 12 questions, 2 times each, of ChatGPT and Claude (both searching the web live) and Gemini (answering from what it knows; Google's terms don't let tools like ours analyse its web-search answers). The questions are worded the way readers really ask. We read which books each answer recommends, count each book once however it is spelled, leave out any book or author the question itself named, and rank by the share of answers that name it. A list is published only when every assistant answered.
This week: 72 answers (48 live, 24 from memory). Question set uk-1, run 5 October 2026.
- “What are the best personal finance books I should read? I'm in the UK and want something actually useful, not just waffle.”
- “I'm 26 and have never read anything about money and investing. Where should I start with personal finance books?”
- “Any good personal finance books that came out in the last year or so? Looking for something up to date for UK readers, with ISAs and pensions and that.”
- “What are some underrated personal finance books that don't get talked about much but are actually worth reading?”
- “My dad is 60 and wants to retire in a few years but is a bit clueless about pensions. What personal finance book could I get him for Christmas?”
- “I've got a long weekend coming up and want to finally sort out my finances. Which money book would be good to read over a rainy weekend?”
- “Can you recommend books on investing for beginners in the UK, specifically about index funds and stocks and shares ISAs?”
- “I really enjoyed The Psychology of Money. What other books are similar to it?”
- “I loved everything by Martin Lewis. What should I read next on money and budgeting?”
- “Our book club wants to try a personal finance book for a change. Which one would get people chatting and arguing about money?”

- “If I only read one book to get my head around money and saving, which one should I read first?”
A list shows what the assistants said that week. It is not a ranking of quality or of sales, and nobody pays to be on it.
